Meet The Artist
Ellen Kellogg
When I travel I get inspired by other artists’ work, like this enormous olive jar in Key West Fl. I first learned how to throw pottery in high school in the Albany NY area.
During the years when my two children were young , I helped operate a family pottery business, and sold pieces at retail and wholesale shows around the northeastern U.S.
Now, after a 28 year career as a Speech Language Pathologist, I’m back to my pottery roots and loving it. I create utilitarian pieces primarily on the potter’s wheel, or sometimes hand build them with slabs of clay. I enjoy making work that is functional and beautiful. I fire everything I make at cone 5/6 in an electric kiln in an oxidation environment. Each piece is microwave and dishwasher safe. I love the feel of clay in my hands , and savor forming each unique piece. With all the variation in the process of throwing, trimming, bisque firing, glazing, and the final glaze firing, each piece is truly one of a kind. I hope you enjoy using my pottery as much as I enjoy making it.
